Cardiac Procedures

When it comes to taking care of your heart, there is a range of procedures that Dr. Lilian Ahiable can perform to help monitor and take care of your heart health. These procedures are designed to provide you with more information and insight into your overall heart health and can be used to help determine further courses of treatment.

Cardiac Catheterization

Cardiac catheterization is when a thin, flexible tube is guided through a blood vessel to your heart. This procedure is commonly referred to as cardiac cath or heart cath.

The purpose of this is to either diagnose or treat certain types of heart conditions. Important information can be collected using this procedure about your heart's valves, blood vessels, and muscles. It allows your cardiologist to see how well your heart is working.

Cardiac catheterization can provide your cardiologist with a lot of information on how your heart works. It can allow them to identify problems with your heart and even take action to open up a blocked artery.

Cardiac catheterization can be used to diagnose and treat a variety of conditions, including:

During cardiac catheterization, there are a lot of things your doctor can do, depending on your particular health needs:

  • Diagnose congenital heart defects
  • Diagnose heart valve disease
  • See how your heart pumps blood through the left and right ventricles (ventriculogram)
  • Measure oxygen and blood pressure in different areas of your heart
  • Locate blockages in blood vessels that could lead to chest pain
  • Look in your blood vessels for blood clots

Loop Recorder Implantation

An implantable loop recorder, or ILR, is a heart recording device that goes under the chest skin. Loop recorder implantation is the procedure for implanting the device under your skin.

The implantation is a minor procedure that your cardiologist, Dr. Lilian Ahiable, will perform. She will place the device under your skin. It goes directly on your chest wall, right over the heart. The device records the electrical signals from your heart. Your cardiologist can download this information to see how your heart works.

An ILR is designed to last up to three years, so it can provide your cardiologist with a wealth of data and information to analyze.

There are a few reasons why you may need a loop recorder implanted in your body, including:

If you have experienced any of these issues above, a loop recorder device can help. It can collect information about how your heart functions and develop a more comprehensive treatment plan.

Cardioversion

Cardioversion is a medical treatment used to restore a normal heart rhythm in those experiencing an irregular and often very rapid heart rhythm. It is commonly performed to treat atrial fibrillation (AFib), atrial flutter, and other fast forms of irregular heart rhythms or arrhythmias.

Cardioversion is typically scheduled but may also be performed as an emergency treatment when necessary to quickly reset the heart rhythm.

At Sydnor Cardiovascular Center, our board-certified cardiologist, Dr. Lilian Ahiable, provides safe and effective cardioversion with personalized care to help you regain a stable heartbeat and improve your overall heart health.
